The Fisherman’s Picnic, sponsored by the Grand Marais Lions Club, will be held in Grand Marais, MN. This is a “family affair” with a parade, fireworks, street dances, $10,000 raffle… an event filled with live music on stage, food, contests, and many activities. We close off the entire downtown area, so visitors can watch (or participate) in venues such as log rolling, the dunk tank, a cross-cut saw contest, and much, much more.
Contests for all ages include the Cutest Puppy, the MN State Loon Calling Championship… and, of course, a rock-skipping contest in the Harbor. Then don the supplied plastic garbage bag (or just watch) the not-to-be-missed Fish Toss… yup… that’s real (dead) slimy ciscoes caught (or missed) by the not-so-faint-of-heart.
The long weekend includes a Big Fish Contest, a Trail Run (or Walk), plus Tennis, 3-on-3 Hoops, and Men’s Slow Pitch Softball Tournaments. For the youngest, there are pint-sized rides, inflatables, minnow races, a tractor pull, and a rock painting contest.
Fisherman’s Picnic is, by far, the most attended event of the summer, bringing thousands of people to our “cool” harbor village each August. We hope you will join us and share in the fun and excitement.
Food vendors can be open from 8am on Thursday until 5:00pm on Sunday with setup beginning Wednesday by appointment only. No sales are allowed on Wed. Since the 220 outlets are sparse, all requests for these outlets must first be arranged through GMLionsVendors@gmail.com. You must also pre-arrange your schedule through GMLionsVendors@gmail.com if you are not able to be open from Thu-Sun. Specific booth location requests will be honored whenever possible.
